First Time Hair Colour Questions? We Answer Them Here!

Do you want to brighten your natural brunette or blonde hair? Are you fed up with having a natural hair colour? Have you got some grey hairs that you want to get rid of? We understand it can be overwhelming when considering colouring your hair for the first time, which is why we’ve written this article to answer any questions you might have about first time hair colouring…

A Skin Test Is Essential Before You Have Your Hair Coloured For The First Time

At COUPE Hair Salon in Sunninghill, Ascot we are only able to offer hair colouring to men and women over the age of 16.  You must come in for a quick skin test at least 48 hours prior to your first colour appointment to test for allergies to the colour range we use.

There’s no need to book for this as it takes only a minute, but we will not be able to colour your hair without a record of a skin test. We simply dab a small amount of colour on your wrist or behind your ear, which you can wipe away after 30 minutes. If there has been no reaction within 48 hours, we can go ahead with colouring your hair for the first time.

Which Hair Colour Should I Choose For My First Time?

There are many reasons why people decide to colour their hair, whether you’re fed up with your natural hair colour, want to cover any new grey hairs or want a complete hair colour transformation. We would recommend that you book in for a complimentary hair colour consultation with a COUPE colour expert first so we can help you find the perfect hair colour for you.

Fashionable Hair Colours – Including Pastel Hair Shades

Women and men of all ages and walks of life are increasingly looking to make a statement when it comes to choosing a hair colour. If you are new to hair colour and want a striking makeover, why not go all out with a vibrant fashionable hair colour? Multi-coloured shades including deep purples, bright pinks, glamourous greys and smokey blues, can be used to make a statement or even mixed to really turn heads!

Natural-Looking Hair Colour Techniques – Balayage and Ombre Hair

If you would rather have a more natural-looking hair colour for your first time, you should ask your COUPE colour expert for a balayage colouring service; Balayage is the most popular hair colouring technique around! Balayage is a technique where colour is hand-painted onto certain sections of the hair and your roots are “stretched” out, with a lighter shade than your natural colour towards the ends.

Hide Grey Hair Or Give Your Natural Hair Colour A Boost

If you are experiencing the growth of pesky grey hairs, and want to cover them up without it looking too obvious, we can help! If you love your natural hair colour, but want it to look more vibrant and glossy, or to blend away any greys, you could consider adding in some highlights or lowlights. Our highly trained colour technicians in our salon have the expertise can find the shade or shades that will compliment your natural hair colour.

Is A Permanent or a Temporary Hair Colour Best For Me?

Temporary Hair Colour – If it is you first time colouring your hair, you may find it less intimidating to start off with a temporary hair dye. A temporary hair colour will wash out over a few shampoos. You can only use a temporary hair colour to darken your hair, if you wish to go lighter you will need a semi-permanent or permanent hair colour.

Semi-Permanent Hair Colour – You can achieve longer-lasting hair colour with a semi-permanent shade, which is ideal if you want to subtly boost your natural hair colour or cover any new grey hairs.

Permanent Hair Colour – Permanent hair dye works by lifting the cuticles along the hair shaft and depositing the colour deep within each hair strand. Your colour will be permanent and your roots will need re-touching every six to eight weeks at the salon.

How To Care For Your Newly Coloured Hair

Now that you’ve had your hair coloured for the first time, you’ll want to keep it looking vibrant and healthy. Hair colour care starts in the salon during the colouring process itself where we can add a specialist SMARTBOND treatment during the colouring process to protect the hair from damage, leaving it looking healthy and holding the colour for longer.

If your hair has been lightened, we would recommend using a silver shampoo, which actually comes in a purple shade, to neutralise and orange or brassy tones and keep your blonde hair looking vibrant and glossy. For darker hair colours your COUPE stylist can recommend the perfect at home hair care products for your chosen hair colour, type and texture.
