What Is Balayage?

Balayage is the most popular hair colouring technique to obtain a natural looking, long lasting hair colour finish. Balayage is a French term which translates as “to sweep or paint the hair”. Your COUPE hair colour expert will paint the highlights on by hand, paying attention to where the sun might naturally lift the hair to give you a gorgeous sun kissed look. The bespoke results will be less uniform and more natural looking than you may expect with traditional foil highlights.

We will also ask you to come in for a quick skin allergy test at least 48 hours before your hair colour appointment to ensure you will not suffer any reactions to the colours involved.

Is Balayage Suitable For My Hair Colour?

Yes! Balayage will look stunning on all shades of blondes, brunettes, red, auburn or even silvery grey hair. In addition to working with natural hair colours, balayage can be used to try out fashionable hair colours such as pretty pastel shades.

How Long Will It Take To Create my Balayage Look?

The length of your balayage appointment will depend on whether we are adding colour throughoutyour hair, or just adding a few face framing highlights. Book in for a balayage consultation where our COUPE colour specialists will be able to assess the condition of your hair and discuss the look that you are aiming for.

If your hair has been damaged by over processing, your appointment will take longer as we will need to improve the condition of your hair so that it is ready for the hair colouring process. Find out more about L’Oreal Smartbond, which we use to repair and protect the condition of your hair.

What is The Difference Between Ombré and Balayage?

Ombré hair colouring produces a contrasting two-toned effect from root to tip, whereas balayage is a more subtle hair colouring technique, and only a few sections of highlights are added to your roots. Ombré hair colour is darker at the roots and gradually becomes lighter towards the tips in a defined way, whereas balayage is more of a multi-dimensional look.

How Do I Maintain My Balayage?

As this method of highlighting is softest at the root area and more concentrated towards the ends of the hair, you will not need to visit us quite so often for a hair colour service. To maintain your look at it’s best we recommend that you visit COUPE Hair Salon every 8-12 weeks.

You should ask your COUPE colour expert for recommendations on appropriate shampoo and conditioner products, and use these together with regular treatments at our Ascot hair salon.
